Three local outlets forecast possible showers or thunderstorms in separate markets, with no common storm system or observed event identified.
Atlanta News First issued the latest of three separate local forecasts for possible showers and thunderstorms, with reports also covering Hampton Roads and Washington, D.C.
The outlets described different timing and conditions in their respective markets. None of the reports identified a common storm system, location or observed weather event linking the forecasts.
Atlanta News First, also known as WANF, published its forecast on Aug. 4 under the headline โFirst Alert Forecast: Scattered showers and storms this week.โ The outlet forecast a dry start, followed by isolated storms during the afternoon and evening.
The Atlanta report was a forecast for possible local weather rather than confirmation that showers or storms had occurred. Its summary did not identify a storm system shared with the other markets.
13News Now in Norfolk published a Hampton Roads forecast on Aug. 3. The outlet said humid conditions were expected Monday, with chances for showers and storms through the workweek.
The 13News Now summary described typical summer heat and humidity alongside the shower and storm chances. Its forecast covered Hampton Roads and North Carolina and did not report an observed storm event common to Atlanta or Washington.
FOX 5 DC also published a forecast on Aug. 3, saying showers and thunderstorms were possible Monday in the Washington area. The outlet forecast very humid conditions, temperatures in the upper 80s and heat index values in the 90s.
FOX 5 DC said the conditions could potentially slow the early afternoon commute. That report, like those from Atlanta News First and 13News Now, concerned possible future conditions in its local market rather than confirmed storms.
The three forecasts therefore concern Atlanta, Hampton Roads and Washington, D.C., rather than one identified location. Their timing and described conditions also differ: Atlanta News First referred to isolated afternoon and evening storms and scattered activity during the week; 13News Now described shower and storm chances through the workweek; and FOX 5 DC focused on possible Monday storms.
Each outlet forecast a chance of showers or thunderstorms, but the source material does not establish that the reports concern the same weather event. No outlet cited a common system connecting all three areas.
It is not yet known from the reports whether storms occurred in any of the markets. The supplied material contains forecasts only and does not include observations confirming rainfall, thunderstorms or storm effects.
